Barcelona captain Lionel Messi and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo might not be taking part in today’s El Clasico, but the fans of both the individuals just can not stop trying to prove a point.
As Barcelona ready themselves to host Real Madrid at the Camp Nou without Messi – who will not feature in the game due to a fractured arm – emotions among the two fandoms run an all time high.
Even though neither Messi or Ronaldo are key subjects, or subjects at all, for this Clasico, what’s a Clasico if there is no talk of the two, isn’t it? At least the fans think that way.
Here are some of the reactions from Twitter regarding the never-ending Messi vs Ronaldo debate

This user accuses Madrid fans of being insecure
Ronaldo fans are mad insecure. We hype Messi based on ability but they go on rambling about Ronaldo while dragging Messi into it. The height of goat insecurity.

While the one below believes there should not be an argument anymore
Ronaldo carrying Juventus all by himself at age 33. If he wins the CL there is no Messi debate. Debates ended when he won Euros and 3 CL in a row but it's been forced debate since

‘A certain Lionel Messi’ now that’s harsh
If you’re Cristiano Ronaldo and you won a Major International Trophy, won 5 UCLs in 2 different clubs, UCL 3 Peat, 120 UCL goals, Top UCL scorer 7 in 7 seasons, averaging 50+ goals every year since 2011
Isn’t it disrespectful to be compared to a certain Lionel Messi ?

But worry not, we are keeping it as balanced as we can
Cristiano Ronaldo is only relevant in football because he scores, otherwise his overall play is an absolute horror show
Man should just stop trying to dribble past players, his just making fun of himself ffs

We have heard this argument a million times before, haven’t we?
I don't always like to get involved in the Messi vs Ronaldo comparison. The fact is that they are both a blessing to the football of this generation. But then again, Ronaldo has conquered England, Spain and now Italy. Messi needs to get into another league to prove a point.

Clasicos are always Clasicos
Valverde: "The Clasico existed before Messi and Ronaldo. There were pigs' heads flying, there was tension. The Clasico is always the Clasico".

Safe to say we all can agree to this, right?

The pre-Clasico banter proves yet again that there would never be an end to comparison between the two legends of football. And if we were to have a say in this, we’d say let’s just enjoy all of it while it lasts.
